SPECIAL EVENTS
Winners of The Explorers Club Centennial Photography Competition were announced on September 17, 2003 at the Club's headquarters in New York City. A panel of six judges, all of them top professional photographers and editors, judged photographs in three categories - People, Flora & Fauna, and Landscape & Architecture. A Grand Prize winner was declared, as well as a winner for each category. The competition was sponsored by Nikon Owners magazine. The photographer receiving the Grand Prize was awarded a Nikon D100 digital camera, generously donated by Gray Levett, who is the editor of Nikon Owner and cofounder of Grays Westminster the award-winning Nikon-only shop based in London, England.. Accompanying the awards ceremony was a presentation by Clare Flemming, MS, the Club's Curator of Research Collections. The lecture, entitled "Exposing 100 Years of Photography - A presentation of Vintage Photographs", highlighted historic photographs from The Explorers Club Archives. |
