Constance Difede, LM ‘01

For fifteen years, Constance Difede has devoted extensive time and immense effort to further the mission of The Explorers Club. She is presently Vice President for Special Projects and Director emerita. Constance was formerly Vice President and Chair of Flag and Honors.

An active explorer, Constance has carried Explorers Club Flag 117 to the Solomon Islands on the 2006 Bio Survey Expedition, Corucia zebrata and recently carried Flag 25 to the South Pole in 2015 on Endurance 100.  The Expedition undertook the planned route of the Shackleton’s Endurance expedition with concentration on the scientific and social work of James Wordie, the Chief Scientist on the Endurance. Constance has been a member of eight additional flag expeditions including the Mt. Everest High Altitude Research Expedition; the Rapa Nui (Easter Island) Archeology Expedition; the Search for Roggeveen Anchors Dive Expedition; the Expedition to the Mari Bahn; Hawai’i Marine Mammal Humpback Whale research; and the Dive Expedition to Cuba’s Unknown Garden of the Queens. She has conducted field research on effects of drilling mud spill on benthic communities and coral reef at the western end of St. Croix.

During her years of service to the Club, Constance has twice been elected a Director of The Explorers Club and served as the Chair of Management and Nominating Committees. As Chair of Flag and Honors, for nine years, she guided a blue ribbon panel of Committee members evaluating all applications to carry the Club Expedition Flags and the award of all honors extended by the Club.  Constance was a member of the Bylaws Committee and a major contributor to the amendments overwhelmingly ratified by our Club. In her present Vice President’s role, she is leading the efforts to define our branding relationship with a major corporate sponsor and leads a small group concentrating on corporate sponsorships for grants and expeditions.  She is a frequent Club ambassador to the regional and international chapters and a member of the Atlanta Chapter.
