Vanessa O'Brien holds the women's record (just over 11 months) for the "Explorers Grand Slam" - a ski to the North and South Poles, plus
climbs of the Seven Summits (highest peaks on each continent): Elbrus (Europe); Kilimanjaro (Africa); Kosciuzko (Australia); Everest (Asia); McKinley (North America); Aconcagua (South America); Vinson (Antarctica). She even threw in Carstenz Pyramid (Oceania), if one considers that the seventh continent instead of Australia.
As preparation for the grueling challenge, O'Brien trained extensively while climbing two other 8,000-meter peaks - Cho Oyu and Shishipangma – researching the effects of the popular altitude-sickness drug Diamox.
O'Brien, a former banker, will talk about this and more with interviewer Jim Clash, then answer audience questions at the end.
