Field & Exploration Committee Spring Fieldcraft Workshop

The Exploration Field Trips Committee serves to teach outdoor skills while fostering camaraderie and unity within our diverse and geographically separated membership. Stefansson is often quoted as “adventure is a sign of incompetence”. The concept being that with good planning a professional explorer should be able to achieve their work without undue surprise.

The Spring Course is part of the Committee’s Intro to Fieldcraft series. We are going to start from the fundamentals of what you need to know to pack, prepare and live comfortably with little more than what you carry in. The program is in two parts: a classroom session in NYC followed by a field session over two nights in rural Connecticut. An EC member has graciously underwritten the cost of this program, so this program is free to EC members, but we only have space for 25 attendees at the field portion. And, spaces will be on a first come basis. The classroom session will be on Saturday April 26 and the field portion will be the weekend of May 2-4. Persons who cannot come in on Friday can come in early on Saturday. Attendees will need to get to the site (accessible by Metro-North Train for minimal cost) and you will need a backpack, sleeping bag, suitable clothing and food. Attendees who do not have a tent should seek to share space with someone who does.

Attendees at the classroom session should bring a light snack for their lunch as there will not be a lot of time to go out for food. Persons who cannot attend the field portion may attend just the classroom session, but we ask that persons who wish to do the field session attend the classroom session.
