“Hope on the Hudson” Film Screening

The Explorers Club Film Committee Presents a special screening of “Hope on the Hudson,” a trio of thee new short documentaries about the Hudson River from director Jon Bowermaster and Ocean 8 Films. Bowermaster will be in attendance to speak about his recent work following the screening.

The films are:

CITY ON THE WATER
With 520 miles of waterfront, New York City is truly a water city. Everywhere you go, there are tunnels and bridges delivering you over water, to such a degree that some have dubbed the waterways that encircle it “the sixth borough.” There’s brand new activity on all of the waterways that surround NYC, making this the cornerstone of the ‘Hope on the Hudson’ series.

RESTORING THE CLEARWATER
For nearly a year, the historic sloop Clearwater was out of water, on land, enduring what wooden boats have endured forever: Restoration. This film documented the restoration and return of the ship to the Hudson. Built under the leadership of Pete Seeger, the Clearwater continues to fulfill his mission, roaming America’s “First River” and serving as a vessel for education.

SEEDS OF HOPE
From planting to harvest during 2017, this film documents a unique effort to save several varieties of Native American seeds that have nearly gone extinct. A combined effort of the Hudson Valley Farm Hub, Hudson Valley Seed Library, and the Akwesane Tribe of northern New York, this is a multi-year project to preserve both a rich agricultural heritage and the ancestral stories contained within it.
