NYC - Film Screening - The Only Real Game

The Only Real Game (2014)

Directed by Mirra Bank, who will be present to answer questions after the screening.

The Explorers Club cordially invites you to A New York screening of The Only Real Game. Mirra Bank's feature documentary reveals an almost unknown, hauntingly beautiful but troubled part of the world where, astonishingly, baseball has been played, and cherished, since WWII. The Only Real Game follows two gifted Major League Baseball Envoy coaches who journey to Manipur and, together with dedicated players there, help heal a wounded society through love of a great sport.

Once princely Manipur, a strife-torn border state in northeast India, defies gun violence, drug trafficking, and HIV/AIDS through love of our national pastime. Manipur entered the Indian Union under protest in 1949, triggering a corrosive separatist conflict. For decades, baseball has delivered release from daily struggles and a dream for healing a wounded society. Dreams chase reality when two Major League Baseball Envoy coaches team up with Manipuri men, women and children to “Play Ball.” With gifted women and girls among the best players, as well as leaders of peace and justice initiatives, this Manipuri story brings us to the heart of what Babe Ruth called "the only real game in the world."
