Polar Film Festival 2016 Friday

Friday Evening Session

6:00pm - 8:45pm

•  6:00 pm Reception
•  7:00 pm Introduction by Festival Co-Chair Stefan Kindberg
•  7:05 Screening of short-film by Jason van Bruggen

Jason van Bruggen depicts remote wilderness, including the Far North, with raw authenticity and bold narrative - building new interpretations of these landscapes that have traditionally been full of clichéd notions of exploration and shallow cultural representation. Jason's immersive work seeks to explore rugged and stunning landscapes, while working passionately to bring widespread awareness of the forces that threaten them. The imagery he crafts brings an unmistakable emotive power to the screen that both challenges and celebrates the essence of our nature. Jason is a Fellow International of the Explorers Club. He has travelled and worked in over 100 countries, including some of the most remote and austere locations on the planet. His work has been awarded in Applied Arts, Communication Arts, PDN. His photographs on topics of exploration and conservation appear in print on behalf of leading global brands and editorial publications.

Sumé: The Sound of Revolution
Produced by Ánorâk Films, Directed by Inuk Silis Høegh (73 minutes)
From 1973 to 1976 the Greenlandic rock band Sumé released three albums and changed the history of Greenland. The group’s political songs were the first to be recorded in the Greenlandic language – a language that prior to Sumé didn’t have words for “revolution” or “oppression”. After 250 years of Danish colonization, Sumé set in motion a revival of Greenlandic culture and identity, and paved the way for a Greenlandic home rule government.
