Eight Summits Film: The Bill Burke Story

One Man, One Mission. Bill Burke MN ’11 had a goal after retirement: to stay active and healthy. With a goal to try mountaineering, little did he know that he would enter into the record books and become the oldest climber in the World to scale all eight of the highest peaks after age 60, then becoming the oldest American to summit Mt. Everest.

EIGHT SUMMITS is a remarkable film produced and directed by Southern California Chapter Co-Chair Allan Smith MN ’09 that captures Bill’s story and follows him along his journey into the record books. From his home town in California to Mt. McKinley and Mt. Everest, this compelling story will help you realize that anything is possible if you just work hard and believe in yourself.

Based on the remarkable life of Bill Burke, this film captures in stunning HD one man's quest for the “Seven Summits” and a goal to bring awareness to the disabled and Angelman Syndrome. A story of inspiration and hope, EIGHT SUMMITS follows Bill on his world record climb of Mt. Everest and his attempt to be the first to climb Everest from both the North (Tibet) and the South (Nepal) in one season, at the age of 70.

Immediately following the screening of Eight Summits, there will be a Q & A Session with Bill Burke and Allan Smith. For those who wish to have dinner at the Bowers Museum’s Tangata Restaurant that evening, there is a special no-host Valentines Day Dinner offered. More info on Eight Summits can be found at
