Special Event - An afternoon with Lord John Alderdice

John, Lord Alderdice is one of the political leaders in Ireland who negotiated the 1998 Good Friday peace deal. He now works on violent political conflict in various parts of the world, but also takes a keen interest in the welfare of First Nation or indigenous peoples and the intractability of some of their conflicts with the descendants of those who colonized their countries. This interest comes partly from the experience of his great, great grand uncle, the Irishman, John King, who was the first man to cross Australia and return alive. He survived because, unlike his colleagues, he developed a good relationship with the Australian Aboriginal people. Lord Alderdice will tell the fascinating story of how the lessons of that 19th century expedition inform his own work in various parts of the world.
