Special Event: World Renowned Conservationist Claudine André at The Explorers Club

Claudine André will Reveal her Plans for Bonobo Re-introduction to the Wild

You are invited to personally meet Claudine André, the champion of protecting the severely endangered bonobo. A bonobo is an amorous and charismatic great ape that is our closest living cousin: humans and bonobos share 98.7% of our DNA in common.

The little known bonobo is the only great ape that is female led and does not kill its own kind. Humans have reached the Moon, split the atom, and decoded the human genome, but only bonobos have figured out how to sustain peace. Against all odds, Ms. André has rescued, rehabilitated, and released these peaceful apes in her home country of Democratic Republic of Congo. She has created “Lola ya Bonobo” – the only bonobo sanctuary in the world – that thrives on the outskirts of Kinshasa.

Claudine is the only person in the world to successfully reintroduce bonobos back to their native rainforest. Come see a cinematic depiction of that release in the award winning movie "BONOBOS: Back to the Wild" and hear firsthand about Claudine's plan to release the second group of bonobos to Ekolo – a protected natural site on the Congo River. Ms. André was recently featured on 60 Minutes and has received multiple international honors including the “The Legion of Honor” (France's highest civilian award) and “The Prince Laurent Award” from Belgium.

Wine, beer, and Congolese-inspired hors d'oeuvres will be served.
