Lowell Thomas 2011: Call for Awardee Nominations - Deadline May 9th

We are seeking nominations for the best and the brightest candidates in the world of exploration who are focused upon solving or having resolved the world’s greatest mysteries during the course of expeditions using field science and accepted investigatory techniques.

Some examples might be:

How were the moai statues raised on Easter Island?
Where did Franklin’s Lost Expedition end?
Why is the cancer rate low among the Waorani tribes?
Were George Mallory and Sandy Irvine the first to summit Mt. Everest?
Was the Bismarck scuttled by the Germans or sunk by the Allies?

The Flag and Honors Committee invites you to participate by nominating scientists and explorers who are making exceptional contributions in the fields of exploration, scientific research, and who are dedicated to the principles of The Explorers Club as set forth in Articles II and III of the By-laws.

A qualified candidate would be an explorer who has successfully resolved or is in the process of solving a mystery of significance, leading to an increase in the body of man’s knowledge, using documented methods of scientific field investigation.  The candidate must have communicated his or her methods or findings with others to attain the next critical step of awareness beyond individual achievement.

Please note that the Lowell Thomas award is intended to celebrate excellence and is not limited solely to Explorers Club members.  However, you must be an Explorers Club member in good standing to make a nomination.  You are invited to send your one or two page written nomination letter, with the candidate’s curriculum vita and exploration record details to:

Letters must be postmarked by May 9, 2011

We will accept a one to two page written nomination letter and support documents as an attachment by email to: Annie Lee, Member Services: .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). The signed nomination letter must be posted marked by May 9, 2011. Website and search engine results will not be considered.

Please nominate candidates, explorers and field scientists, who best exemplify the topic and have attained a recognized level of excellence with his or her discoveries.

The awards will be presented at The Lowell Thomas celebration in St. Louis, Missouri, October 15, 2011. The event will reflect upon the world’s greatest mysteries.
