Exciting Updates for Night of the Sea Turtle

/img>

Night of the Sea Turtle is right around the corner and shaping up to be a truly one of a kind evening. You can click here to purchase tickets online.

In addition to the incredible line up of speakers announced last week — including STC Executive Director David Godfrey, National Geographic Emerging Explorer David Gruber (who discovered biofluorescent Sea Turtles), and the Earthwatch Institute — we have also added a ton of other exciting elements to the evening.

We are thrilled to announce that bidding is open for the Silent Auction! Please visit our auction website and enjoy looking through a sampling of the event’s items, including everything from Turtle Christmas Tree ornaments to a stay at the Four Seasons Nevis - with airfare!

Thanks to a generous donation from Norman’s Cay Restaurant, we’ll be enjoying lionfish tacos and learning about lionfish! The lionfish is an invasive species destroying reef fish populations in Florida, the Caribbean, and the Gulf of Mexico, in some places by as much as 90% and have not been commercially fished until now. Norman’s Cay management is proud to be amongst the first New York City restaurants to offer the fish for public consumption to restore a healthy balance of marine life in Bahamian waters.

Also joining us for the evening is Dr. John T. Tanacredi, aka “the Horseshoe Crab Whisperer” a world authority on Horseshoe crab conservation biology and ecology.  He is the Director of CERCOM and Professor of Earth and Environmental Studies at Molloy College in Rockville Center, New York. Horseshoe crabs are in trouble worldwide and the American Horseshoe Crab, Limulus Polyphemus, is presently being considered for Red Listing by the IUCN. Dr. Tanacredi and his assistant will have live adult crabs for viewing and handling. Don’t miss this special addition to the Night of the Sea Turtle!

And don’t forget about the turtle-themed cocktails, specialty hor d’oeuvres, and a DJ set by New York’s finest exploration themed band, the Swaai Boys - see you on Tuesday!
