Explorers Club Mission to Tan Tan

Promoting World Exploration

The Explorers Club took another giant step in early June to further its mission of promoting world exploration, by sending an official delegation to Morocco and the Sahara to attend the world-famous Moussem de Tan Tan.

The delegation was invited as guests of King Mohammed VI of Morocco to accentuate the importance of East-West cooperation in advancing exploration through the positive actions of countries and governments outside of the western nations, with Morocco as a recognized leader.

While at Tan Tan, which celebrates the centuries old traditions of the nomadic arts, sports competitions and crafts, the Explorers Club had the privilege of presenting its coveted citation to King Mohammad VI as a “Benefactor of the Golden Age of World Exploration in the 21st Century.”

King Mohammad VI formally responded to President Nichols with a royal letter stating in part:

“I would like to thank you sincerely for honoring me in recognition of my action to safeguard and promote cultural diversity, especially the Saharan nomads’ legacy.”

The King went on to single out the Explorers Club for “all you are doing to promote exploration and scientific research for a better understanding of the Earth and its history.”

The Explorers Club is encouraging the establishment of an official chapter in Morocco to further its goal of achieving true world exploration and discovery through chapters in countries that are eager to embrace leadership and innovation in exploration.
