Lowell Thomas Awardees Work Featured on NBC Nightly News

Two of our 2013 Lowell Thomas Award Honorees, Kara tribal member Lale Labuko and world-renowned photographer John Rowe, have had their work featured on NBC Nightly News. In a piece titled Pair Rescues Dozens of Children From Deadly Superstition, the NBC News crew traces the roots of Lale’s work, his introduction to John, and how they’ve grown the Omo Child foundation. Founded by Lale and John, Omo Child is an organization that rescues and cares for children located in the Omo River Valley region of Southwest Ethiopia. Their mission is to stop Mingi, the ritualistic killing of infants and children, and to provide a safe, nurturing shelter and quality education for rescued children.
