Scene Last Night: Jeff Bezos Eats Gator, Elon Musk Talks Space

Bloomberg’s Amanda Gordon covered the 110th Explorers Club Annual Dinner in the piece Scene Last Night: Jeff Bezos Eats Gator, Elon Musk Talks Space. Beyond the famous exotics and the technological theme of the evening, honoree Jeff Bezos reflected that his team’s recovery mission was about “recapturing some history and making some history at the same time.” He goes on to explain the inception of the project was borne out of his sense of wonder in witnessing the original Apollo 11 mission at 5 years old, and hope that his project would likewise inspire today’s 5 year olds to dream even bigger.

Bre Pettis—founder and CEO of MakerBot, also in attendance—offered powerful commentary on the importance of failure in the life of an explorer: “What I like about this event is that there’s a lot of failure in the room, which means there’s a lot of people trying…To be an explorer you have to accept failure as a pretty significant option and still want to go on the adventure.”
