The 3rd Annual West Coast Explorers Club Annual Dinner Is Here!

We have been preparing for this for some months and NOW the time is here to make your reservations for…

The West Coast Explorers Club Annual Dinner!

As Chapter Chair of the Southern California Chapter, it is my honor, along with WECAD Co-Chair David A. Dolan (MN ’03) and Co-Chair Rosaly Lopes (FN’04), to invite you to reserve your seat for our third West Coast Annual Explorers Club Dinner (WECAD) taking place on Sunday, April 15, 2012 at the Bowers Museum in Santa Ana, California. This event is co-sponsored by the Bowers Museum. Bowers’ President Dr. Peter Keller (FN’84) also extends his personal welcome to this very exciting event. We are delighted to announce that our newly elected Explorers Club President Alan Nichols (FN’84) will be joining us at WECAD.

Titled “A Night To Remember,” this evening will mark the 100th Anniversary of the Sinking of the Titanic. In keeping with the Titanic theme, our specially catered dinner will include selections inspired by the First Class Menu from the last night of the Titanic. In recognition of this historic event, part of the evening’s program will include a commemoration of this occasion and will feature special music and words of remembrance. A ship’s bell will be rung in honor of those who lost their lives 100 years ago. The evening will begin with a no-host bar reception at 6:00 p.m. with several wings of the museum open for viewing. Our dinner and program will commence at 7:00 p.m.

The highlight of the evening will be the presentation of the 3rd Annual Ralph B. White Award for Oceanographic Exploration and Conservation of the Seas to National Geographic Contributing Photographer-in-Residence Emory Kristof (FN’87). Don Walsh (HON’61), Explorers Club Honorary President and the first recipient of the Ralph White Award will be on hand to present this well-deserved award to Emory Kristof. You can read Emory’s biography on the National Geographic Website here:  Emory Kristof

. Following the receipt of his award, Emory will give what I know will be an awe inspiring presentation illustrated with his photos from his many expeditions to site of the Titanic on the ocean floor, over 12,000 feet below the surface.

The tickets for the evening will be $150.00 per person. The cost for those 30 years old and younger will be $100.00.

There is a special opportunity for those who wish to help underwrite this event and support future programs co-sponsored by our Chapter and the Bowers Museum. With a contribution of $500.00 per ticket, or $5,000.00 for a table of ten, you will have preferred seating and you will be listed in the printed program as an official “Co-Sponsor” of our WECAD. Your donation is tax-deductible minus the cost of the dinner.

Please contact Co-Chair and organizer extraordinaire David Dolan if you are interested in this opportunity. You may call him at 949-307-9182 or by e-mail at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). Thank you in advance for your generous support of our future programs.
