The Flag and Honors Committee invites you to nominate candidates for the Annual Awards 2013. We are seeking nominations for the best and brightest candidates in the world of exploration who typify the aspiration and spirit of each award and citation to be presented. Qualified candidates are explorers and field scientists who are making exceptional contributions to exploration, scientific research and the welfare of humanity, and who are dedicated to the principles of The Explorers Club as set forth in Articles II and III of the By-laws.

Pursuant to its mission to support the spirit of exploration worldwide, the Club’s award program celebrates excellence in exploration. Therefore, qualified nominees for The Explorers Medal may be Club members or non-members.

The Tenzing Norgay Award
The Tenzing Norgay Award is presented to an individual who has demonstrated exceptional mountaineering in the spirit of the famed Sherpa Tenzing Norgay, one of the two first men to summit Mount Everest in 1953. Nominees should embody the spirit of Tenzing, who along with Sir Edmund Hillary, was the first to summit Mt. Everest, then dedicated himself to improving the welfare of the Nepalese people. Some previous recipients have been Sharon Wood, Apa Sherpa and Peter Athans. Our awardee must be someone who has applied his or her mountaineering accomplishments for the betterment of people anywhere in the world. The award is open to all qualified mountaineers.

The Citation of Merit
