ANTARCTICA: Explorer Series, Volume 1

Pat & Rosemarie Keough

ANTARCTICA is an experience, a visual journey. The vivid photography of Pat and Rosemarie Keough tantalizes all senses, evoking the sting of ice crystals on one’s face, the clamour and odour of penguin colonies, the vulnerability of man in the immensity of this majestic yet unforgiving wilderness.

ANTARCTICA is described as an heirloom (The Economist); and shares the tradition of John James Audubon (Toronto Reference Library). Critics and curators worldwide acclaim ANTARCTICA to be among the world’s finest art books, with 23 prestigious awards for excellence. ANTARCTICA combines fine photography with centuries-old binding techniques and state-of-the-art lithography. This hand-bound, full-morocco volume features 345 Keough images. (Morocco is the finest grade of book leather, a natural, genuine goat leather.) This one and only edition is forever limited to 950 luxurious, hand-bound volumes. This weighty tome is itself the objet d’art, versus a reproduction of art.

ANTARCTICA was launched at a reception hosted by Prince Charles at St. James’s Palace. Each tome has been personally autographed by Queen Noor of Jordan and by Pat and Rosemarie Keough.

The accompanying Presentation Box is a natural-linen clam-shell fitted with velvet cushions. Inserts of embossed leather decorate the front and spine. Corner blocks give support to the pages

ANTARCTICA within its presentation box weighs 27.6 pounds (12.5 kg) and has dimensions of 18.25” x 15” x 3.75” (46cm x 38cm x 9cm). The volume itself is 19.2 pounds (8.7 kg) and 17.25” x 13.5” x 2.5” (44.5cm x 34cm x 6.5cm).
